Mercury Shitindo

Mercury Shitindo is a researcher and a Bioethicist with over 18 years’ progressive management experience. She is a key founder and chairperson of Africa Bioethics Network; the network works with different individuals and organizations across Africa for the purpose of enhancing bioethical practices on the continent. She serves as a member of the BCA-WA-ETHICS II Project Advisory Board, a Program Quality Committee at Tropical Health and Education Trust (THET) - Partnerships for Global Health, and eLife’s Global South Advisory Committee for Open Science. She played a key role in the establishment of the African Journal of Bioethics where she serves as an editor. She is an Ethics Course Development and tutor in addition to being a Technical Expert (Consultant) for Global Impact. She volunteers as the East Africa Regional Resource Mobilizer at Africans Rising and as an Ambassador for Crossref. She promotes human rights and human dignity in all aspects of life with general benefits to the African society, as well as for specific intellectual purposes through research, writing, training, and capacity building initiatives that share knowledge and learned experiences across platforms in Africa. Her research interests are in catalyzing equitable access to basic needs, education, health through the promotion of ethical research conduct, community development, adherence to human rights, human dignity and ethics/bioethics.

Farah Mohamed

Farah MohamedI am a global health professional, specializing in research and grant and program management. My main lines of work include the promotion of gender mainstreaming approaches in health research conduct, monitoring, and evaluation, bridging gender gaps in STEM, and bioethics in West Africa at a political and regulatory level. I am also experienced in sex- and gender-based analysis of female-initiated HIV-prevention technology in sub-Saharan Africa as well as the social determinants of non-communicable diseases in African populations in Spain. I have over 4 years of experience managing EU-funded grants on a technical and financial level, as well as over 6 years of global health research and program design experience in Africa, Europe, and South America. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Health Sciences at the University of Zaragoza. The topic of my dissertation is the capacity building of healthcare providers in Senegal on psychosocial support provision for the homosexual population. I have a Master’s degree in Clinical Research: International Health Specialty (sub-specialty: sex- and gender-based analysis)  and a Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy and Biotechnology.
