We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of The Global Health Network Nigeria Country Centre, a monumental step in fortifying Nigeria's position in global health research and development. The virtual launch event, held on Wednesday, 24th January 2024, witnessed the convergence of global health enthusiasts from 51 countries of the world.
Key Highlights:
The launch event, guided by the theme "Strengthening Nigeria's Research Capacity Development," featured a distinguished panel chaired by Godwin Pius Ohemu, the Hub/Media Coordinator of TGHN Nigeria Country Centre. Panel members included eminent figures such as Prof. Akanni Akinyemi, Dr. Ola Ibigbami, Goodness Odey, Prof. Babatope Kolawole, Prof. Trudie Lang, and Christine Kirima.
Insights from the Launch Event:
The kickoff included a welcome address by Goodness Odey, Partnership & Advocacy Coordinator, expressing gratitude to those who contributed to realizing the Country Centre. Dr. Olanrewaju Ibigbami provided a comprehensive overview of the aims and objectives, organizational structure, and proposed activities for 2024.
Christine Kirima, Africa Region Coordinator, delivered a keynote address on "The Global Health Network Opportunities for Early Career Researchers in Nigeria and Beyond; 2024-2025," shedding light on the significance of being a TGHN Country Centre and the abundant opportunities it brings.
A significant segment unveiled the mentors, including Prof. Morenike Oluwatoyin Folayan, Dr. Antor Odu Ndep, Prof. Godwin N. Aja, Prof. Adewale Adisa, Dr. Kome Otokunefor, and Dr. Tochi Joy Okwor. These mentors, chosen for their intellectual prowess, pledged to guide and advise the Country Centre.
Messages of Appreciation:
Goodness Odey led a session of goodwill messages, including expressions of gratitude from Prof. Babatope Kolawole, Provost of the College of Health Sciences, Obafemi Awolowo University, who acknowledged the pivotal roles played by The Global Health Network, University of Oxford, Prof. Trudie Lang, and all contributors to the success of the launch event.
